The Pokémon Project: A Surprising Artistic Journey
Welcome to my website where you’ll find the unexpected intersection of Renaissance art and Pokémon. This journey started rather unassumingly—as I was waiting for an oil painting of my cat to dry, inspiration struck. I found myself giving Pikachu a Renaissance makeover, and before I knew it, I was deep into the creation of the original 151 Pokémon, each with a unique classical flair.
The Genesis of a Unique Fusion
My connection to Pokémon? It’s a familiar tale. It began with the first TV episode I watched as a kid, continuing with the Game Boy games that I anticipated every birthday. Those digital creatures were an integral part of my upbringing.
Artistic Evolution
Though I started with some formal training, it’s really been a self-taught journey fueled by sheer curiosity and a love for the craft, with hours spent learning through online resources. I hope it shows that with enough curiosity, you can create your own path in art.
The Artistic Process
Each piece is a commitment of roughly 10-20 hours—this does not account for the time spent on varnishing and preparing for shipment. The process is meticulous, ensuring each Pokémon is not only recognized but also appreciated in a new light. I currently still have a job, so 2 paintings per week is my maximum output for now.
Connect and Collect
The enthusiasm from the Reddit community has been overwhelming and encouraging. I’ve set up a newsletter for those who wish to keep up to date on the availability of originals and upcoming prints. For those eager to be part of the journey, my Patreon offers a closer look at the creation process and recieve high quality images and prints (coming soon when the paint is dry).
Also, I stream the painting process on Twitch for live interaction. I post work in progress pictures on Instagram stories.
